Learn Spanish While Traveling In Buenos Aires

If you have decided to learn Spanish, but do not want to do so by sitting in a classroom for hours on end, then perhaps you should immerse yourself in the culture and language for a while.  Traveling is a great way to learn new languages, and Buenos Aires is a great place to learn Spanish.

A Few Things To Consider

Before you hop on a plane, you should do some advance learning.  You can't just absorb the language instantaneously without a small base to work on, and if you want to succeed with immersion learning, you should try to ensure you can get by without needing any English.  A little while with a phrase book to learn the basics such as numbers, directions and greetings will go a long way.  Make sure you can at least ask for directions to your hotel, and understand the answers, before you go.

If you go to Buenos Aires to learn Spanish , you can relax in the knowledge that should you get desperate, most people do speak some English.  However, for immersion learning to work, it is best to try to stick to Spanish as much as possible.

First of all, consider the level of Spanish that you do or do not know. There are many people who decide to learn Spanish all over again despite having taken it in school. If this is the category that you fit into, you might remember more Spanish than you think you do, which would certainly help when it comes to learning Spanish by visiting Buenos Aires.

However, if you do not know any Spanish whatsoever, you need to go to your local bookstore and get a Spanish to English book in order to begin learning Spanish when you visit Buenos Aires. Now, this book does not have to be very large, which would be difficult to carry around while you are traveling. In fact, you can get a pocket dictionary to look up key phrases.

Once you know the basics, such as 'hello', 'how are you' and 'thank you', you can think about some other things that would be useful, such as names of your favorite foods, or, if you have an allergy, how to say 'I am allergic to tomatoes', for example.  A good phrase book will be invaluable, and you may want to print out a few useful words from an online dictionary too.  Then, once you have them memorized, take them with you for reference, and enjoy your trip to Buenos Aires.
